The new site has been redesigned for a better desktop and mobile experience, and fits right in with the company brand guidelines.

A softer, friendlier look

The most visible change is the updated cloud texture that sits at the very top of all non-content pages. It scrolls with the content, so it feels like part of the page instead of a fixed frame around it.

Headings with personality

Headings are now set in Caveat, a handwritten typeface that suits the brand far better than the geometric sans we were using before. Body copy stays in Lato, so longer passages remain comfortable to read.

A consistent app presentation

The apps are presented in an updated list item template, where the header icon is sized to match the height of that text exactly, so every app lines up on the same rhythm no matter how long its name is.

Below each header sits a screenshot, a short description, the languages the app is available in, and a direct link to the App Store.

Built to grow

The apps on the site are now driven by a single data file rather than hand-written pages. This makes keeping the information up to date easy as the Appamini family grows.

We hope you enjoy the new site. If you spot anything that looks off, we would love to hear about it.

App Updates

We received an email from Apple in June, where they said our apps had to be updated to stay on the App Store.

Since we haven’t updated the apps in some time, we decided that we we’re going to try updating them, and just remove them in case updating them involved too much work.

To our big delight, we just had to update the deployment targets to iOS 15 and rebuild the apps with the latest version of Xcode (the tool you use top build apps for Apple’s platforms).

We are therefore happy to announce that the apps you download from the App Store are now build for modern platform versions, and ready in case we want to take them further.

We therefore can’t restore old blog posts for the new website.

When we removed the blog from the old website, we archived all old blog posts and stored them on an external drive, in case we later wanted to restore the content.

When we now tried to restore them for the new website, the zip file could not be extracted. While it may still be able to fix the file and restore the content, we have decided to let things be.

Next Steps

Instead of dwelling on the past, we are fine with letting the blog start anew. There was little of true value in the old blog, and perhaps looking forward is the easiest and best thing to do.

The app that was featured is Appamini ABC, which is an app that helps kids learn the alphabet through games and play, in English, Swedish, and Italian.
